Letty Stott
Letty is one of the UK’s most innovative and versatile horn players. As a multi-genre orchestral and chamber musician, Letty has worked with major orchestras including the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, Heritage Orchestra, Multi-Story Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and English National Opera and Ballet orchestras.
Letty frequently works as a session musician, with recent film credits including the Hollywood blockbuster The Northman starring Nicole Kidman, for which Letty recorded as a soloist artist, performing on a range of specialist horns including Scandinavian birch-bark and wooden lurs. 2023 film releases include Emancipation starring Will Smith and Beau is Afraid (with Joaquin Phoenix).
Letty has developed her career as a specialist musician, working with unusual forms of horn. These range from conch shells and natural instruments, to Tibetan Dung Chen horns and ancient forms of horn including Cornu, Karnyx and Salpinx. She is currently working with film composer Lior Rosner (Game of Thrones, X-Men Apocalypse) on Echoes of the Ancients, a piece written for Letty and trombonist John Kenny, to be premiered at the Auditorium Nacional de Madrid in February 2023. Letty will also be performing in Copenhagen in March 2023, working with composer Ying-Hsueh Chen on her project Ancestral Modernism: Bones and Shells. Letty will also be performing on Ancient Greek and Roman horns at the ISGMA research conference in Berlin, in September 2023, working with international musicians Marco Blauw and Christine Chapman. Collaborations with London-based jazz trumpeter Steve Pretty (Hackney Colliery Band) include performances at Wilton’s Music Hall in East London, as well as an ongoing collaboration with the Natural History Museum in London, with a VR video using the majestic sounds of conch shells to be released in 2023.
