Alex Lyon
Alex Lyon is an eclectic, cross-genre musician and composer based in South East London, specialising in contemporary music and free improvisation on clarinet and bass clarinet. Her solo work blends minimalism and traditional music influences with extended clarinet technique.
She is an adept collaborator and improviser across contemporary classical, free jazz, and traditional music, shaped by her studies at Sheffield University and Trinity Laban Conservatoire. She has performed at many venues across the UK, such as Kings Place, Woolwich Works, and the Brighton Dome with the Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra.
As a member of the award-winning global folk collective, Mishra, Alex first featured on their second album, "Reclaim" (2021), and since then has performed at festivals such as Celtic Connections, and Cambridge Folk Festival, as a clarinettist and vocalist. She also regularly performs and composes with Indian Classical vocalist, Deepa Shakthi.
In the contemporary classical music scene, Alex works alongside many composers, premiering new works regularly both as a soloist and a member of the contemporary classical trio, Terra Invisus. Their debut album ‘Visions’, supported by Help Musicians and The Marchus Trust, will be released in Spring 2024 and will showcase work by emerging composers in the UK classical music landscape.
